Bombers QB Hall is fiery to the Max

When Max Hall was in his redshirt year at Brigham Young University, the scout team would get together once a week for a full contact scrimmage. It was known as Thursday Night Lights.

As soon as Hall got there, it became Thursday Night Fights.

offensive line wasn very good, the backup Bomber quarterback hopeful began Friday after Day 6 of training camp. the defensive coaches kind of stuck in a couple of the second string guys in there and they blitzing every play. So I getting crushed. I getting creamed.

they start yapping at me. But I was getting up and I was pushing them back down. So after every play I throw a pass there was a fight. doppelkinn entfernen finally had enough. He knew the blitz was coming, so he heaved up a post corner pass almost immediately after taking the snap. It didn stop a linebacker from drilling him.

deliberately hit me late, and he hit me hard, Hall said. I got up and I threw a ball at him, hit him in the face, and then I punched him in the face. And I grabbed his face mask and it was like a hockey deal. So I had him like this (Hall mimics having one hand on the linebacker face mask while swinging his other arm wildly), and I hockey punching him. 27, admits he has always had a switch.

doesn flip as easily as it used to, he said. mellowed out. I got kids now. I a little bit older. So I learned to kind of control it and harness it. Especially in professional football, you can lose your temper and be like that all the time. somewhat tough to picture Hall punching a BYU teammate when just a few months earlier he was going door to door in Des Moines, Iowa, trying to convince residents there to join The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints. Hall grew up in a Mormon family in Arizona, and he always knew he would interrupt his football career at some point to go on an LDS mission. It happened after his first year at Arizona State, even though he was told he would challenge for the starting quarterback job in Year 2.

He cherished the experience.

good and bad, he said. knocked on doors and been staring down a shotgun barrel. I knocked on doors and people are really nice. They bring us in, and they listen to us, and they end up wanting to convert to the church and get baptized. You develop really good relationships. transferred to BYU following his mission and ended up getting signed by his home state Arizona Cardinals in 2010, during which he started three games. He was out of football, assistant coaching at BYU, when the main who recruited him to play for the Cougars, Bombers offensive co ordinator Gary Crowton, got the ball rolling on bringing him to Winnipeg this past winter.

Now, through rookie camp and through six days of main camp, Hall believes the CFL is a league in which he can thrive.

think when I learn the game and I understand it, I be a very good CFL quarterback. I really do, he said. not just saying that to say it, but I think a lot of the strengths that you need to have to be a quarterback here, I have.
